Developing a Nation of Advanced Thinkers: A solid mathematics program will create exceptional logical and creative thinking skills – skills that can be applied to any area of life. Teachers want to be able to teach math in a meaningful way, but often they are working with a fear of mathematics that is based on a lack of understanding of the thinking behind the math concepts. In this workshop, teachers will learn how changing one word in their instruction can make all the difference to their students. One of the most difficult steps for students to make in problem solving is transforming one conceptual understanding into another. In this half-day interactive workshop, teachers will explore how to use basic conceptual linking to help their students understand the applications they examine, as well as how different concepts link together in problem solving.

Spirit of Math Drills Workshop for Teachers: Drill books are available in seven different grade levels for elementary and middle school students to ensure that they have the foundation they need to excel in mathematics. This hands-on workshop trains teachers who are going to use the drill books in their classes on how to effectively implement the drill system, introduce new skill sets needed to do each drill, and work with parents to ensure that they can support their children. There are two different workshops: a four-hour workshop to train teachers using the first five grades and a three-hour workshop to train teachers using 6th and 7th grade books.

The Relocation Property™: One of the most fundamental issues in mathematics education is teaching mental numeracy skills. In this workshop, you will learn Spirit of Math’s Relocation Property and how it expands to basic order of operations. The Relocation Property has helped thousands of students identify common patterns to make mentally calculating complicated expressions simple. Teachers will also be taught how to create their own questions to use in the classroom.
